Mexican authorities have confirmed that a 9-year-old girl gave birth to a baby girl last week at a hospital in the city of Guadalajara, West Mexico. Local health officials say they believe the girl may be the victim of abuse.

Authorities are currently looking for the father, a 17-year-old. If the teenager’s paternity is proven he could face child sex abuse charges.

The girl says the teenager was her boyfriend and from the same neighborhood.

A police spokesman said that both girl and her baby are doing well.
